Home Renovations
What a shocker! This used to be our house!

Over the last 2 months, noise and dust have been a way of life as our lives have been disrupted by home renovations yet again after a long hiatus. Tradesmen stomping around the place at 6.30am, the hammering and drilling (sometimes, right under the toilet which often had me wondering how utterly mortifying it would be if I went crashing through the floor whilst sitting on the loo...), the smell of adhesives and paint, the inch thick layer of dust which settled on everything, and the total loss of privacy (hey, I couldn't even yell at the kids without being conscious of the fact the workmen were hearing everything).
Well, it was well worth the effort as our house has undergone a transformation from the proverbial ugly duckling to beautiful swan.
Gone is the old lower level of our house with the makeshift laundry (with the pipes looking like they'd been smashed through the walls - courtesy of our previous dodgy plumber Geoff), the "storeroom" with the huge gap between the walls and ceiling (allowing the outside in - if you
know what I mean), the infamous wall adjacent to the staircase with all its defects and wires hanging out loose, the oh-so-daggy aluminium sliding doors, the cracked and incomplete black vinyl floor covering, the vines which had made their way into the house through the myriad of cracks...
We now have a spacious rumpus area for the kids to play in, a laundry with extra toilet and shower, a fourth bedroom (a bit pokey) and huge walk-in wardrobe which could double as a study.
Full credit to T who weaved his magic picking up all the loose ends after all the basic construction and plastering were completed - building architraves, attaching doors, gap-filling and painting. Even, A and I lent our painting skills as we applied undercoat and top coat to some areas.
We still have more to go, but so far the results are wonderfully satisfying. So goodbye moths (T would regularly have to vacuum up gigantic moths which would enter our house always in pairs through cracks - can you see him standing on a bed chasing a moth, vacuum in hand?), goodbye toys and mess strewn all over the house (they will all be put downstairs), hello second toilet (what a treat!!).
Needless to say that we are totally over house renovations!
